Department Summary:
The Washington IT Division of the American Chemical Society provides to its members and the worldwide scientific community a
comprehensive collection of high-quality information products and services for the practice and advancement of the chemical sciences. ACS'
members and volunteers are the heart of the organization, and the Society and Administrative Technology (SAT) Department within the
Washington IT Division aims to support their professional and academic pursuits by delivering intuitive, high quality, highly available, and
secure systems and applications. We intend to exceed the expectations of our business partners by anticipating, understanding and validating
their business needs; providing useful, cost-effective solutions and support in a timely manner; managing data securely and providing the
necessary architecture to use and deliver in effective ways; adhering to established guidelines and standards; and continuously adapting to the
evolving environment.
Position Summary:
The Technology Services Management (TSM) team works closely with all aspects of IT operations, including research and development, systems
implementation, configuration management, quality assurance, deployment, release management, training, and user support. We are looking
for a Technical Writer to communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon.
This role involves working with internal and external technical staff to create technical documentation, user documentation, training materials,
FAQ, and related materials. The Technical Writer is a key link between software engineers, data engineers, developers, business analysts,
product owners, and end users, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the technology ecosystem. Some technologies that are
currently part of the SAT environment include SQL Server, Salesforce, Tableau, Java Applications, and Cold Fusion Applications
Responsibilities
 Write, publish and maintain high-quality user documentation to cover areas such as logging in, navigation, and general functionality
 Write technical documentation for internal or external audiences, such as system documentation, schema documentation, API
reference documents, and developer guides
 Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, business analysts, and product owners to design and organize documentation
sets for new and existing technologies
 Support complex documentation projects
 Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others
 Write, edit and properly position white papers, presentations, think pieces and other content for a variety of internal and external
audiences

Required Qualifications
 BA degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, a related field or equivalent practical experience
 5 years of experience writing software documentation in a technical environment
 Writing and editing experience. Must be able to provide writing samples

Preferred Qualifications
 Familiarity with graphic design tools is preferred
 Familiarity with source code written in SQL, Java, or similar programming or scripting languages
 Experience working closely with engineering and product management teams as part of the software development process is
