The Washington IT Division of the a scientific non-profit provides to its members and the worldwide scientific community a
comprehensive collection of high-quality information products and services for the practice and advancement of the chemical
sciences. Client members and volunteers are the heart of the organization, and the Society and Administrative Technology (SAT)
Department within the Washington IT Division aims to support their professional and academic pursuits by delivering intuitive,
high quality, highly available, and secure systems and applications. We intend to exceed the expectations of our business
partners by anticipating, understanding and validating their business needs; providing useful, cost-effective solutions and support
in a timely manner; managing data securely and providing the necessary architecture to use and deliver in effective ways;

Position Summary:
The Society Data Team works very closely with all aspects of the full spectrum of data including analysis, architecture,
development, visualization, reporting, and advanced analytics. We are looking for a Data Engineer to not only build data
pipelines that efficiently and reliably move data across systems, but also to build the next generation of data tools (including
reports, visualizations, and other analytic tools) to enable users to take full advantage of this data. In this role, the work will
broadly influence clients’s data consumers and analysts. You will get the opportunity to work with focused and scaled objectives
while working with a variety of rich data sources. The ideal candidate should not only know how to operate in the data space but
should be comfortable operating as a business analyst in addition to carrying out data tasks. Some specific data engineering
activities include: analyze and database schemas, design and architect data models, develop queries to extract information from
databases, help write routines to move data between systems, as well as produce effective data visualizations to help
communicate insights gleaned from the data.
Primary Responsibilities
• Build data expertise and own data quality for data integration pipelines
• Architect, build and launch new data models that enable reporting and analytics
• Design, build and launch extremely efficient and reliable data pipelines to move data
• Design and develop new systems and tools to enable people to consume and understand data faster
• Use expert coding skills across a number of languages from SQL and Python
• Develop data visualizations using tools such as Tableau
• Support the development of data APIs
• Work across multiple teams in high visibility roles and own data solutions from end-to-end
Required Qualifications
• 3+ years of SQL (MS SQL Server or Oracle) development experience is required
• 2+ years of experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau
• 1+ years of experience with dimensional data modeling & schema design in Data Warehouses
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Java and/or Python development experience is preferred
• Ability to write reusable code components
• Communication skills including the ability to identify and communicate data driven insights
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or a related technical field
• Business analysis and communication skills

o Ability to present information in a clear and succinct fashion
