The C&EN Media group also publishes a wide range of custom content, including sponsored webinars, white papers, conference show dailies, advertorials, and native advertising projects.
Position Summary:
C&EN is recruiting an Art Director for its Creative Department. This position will be a contract position. The position includes responsibility for art direction, design and production tasks for C&EN BrandLab’s custom publishing content. He/she will be highly organized and able to adhere to tight production schedules where quality, speed, and efficiency are critical. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, as well as capable of multitasking and juggling priorities.
Required Skills/Position Accountabilities:
- Handle art direction and support production of custom publishing and native advertising materials. Develop concepts and design of sponsored content articles and campaign collateral, ebooks, and whitepapers.
- Interface with clients seeking C&EN BrandLab’s creative services, handle requests and client feedback.
- Brainstorm and develop art and design concepts for sponsored content campaigns.
- Review work created for C&EN BrandLab to ensure it meets the needs of the client and C&EN BrandLab, as well as adheres to style and production guidelines.
- Manage a pool of as-needed freelance graphic designers and illustrators, reviewing work, communicating changes and feedback, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Handle art direction and assist in layout of printed conference show dailies and guides, including layout of article pages and covers.
- Assist in developing concepts for and mockups of static and interactive graphics and multimedia content, including web interfaces, motion graphic videos, and other rich media content.
- Assist in processing and creating artwork, including scientific graphics and original artwork, for C&EN BrandLab as needed.
- Assist in production of sponsored content articles as needed in C&EN’s production system.
- Assist in developing promotional materials, repurposing images, graphics, and other materials for web, mobile, and social media presentations.
- Work well across teams of production professionals, including those responsible for editing, design, and web production, and according to defined schedules.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of equivalent experience or formal training; knowledge and experience in digital and print publishing workflows and technologies; knowledge and experience defining a customer’s needs and creating custom publishing and digital content; Adobe Creative Cloud; Mac and Windows OS; Microsoft Office; experience with K4, AEM, a plus.
