Communications Operator - Yahoo

The position of Transmissions Tech Operator is critical to the Yahoo Studios team, always
contributing to the improvement of studio production quality, aligning with the studio/control
room/transmissions team, while implementing creative solutions to facilitate live and
pretaped productions. This position will support New York operations within a stimulating,
cross-functional, and innovative environment.
Responsibilities:
● Works under the Head of Studio Operations, NY and upholds standards of practice
established by the head of the department and control room team for complex
transmissions and communications systems.
● Operates all Master Control equipment (in-person) for multiple video live feeds and
recordings.
● Coordinates and communicates directly with live show guests and talent to set up
camera shots and test audio via fiber & IP (Skype/Zoom/Meets) feeds.
● Monitors/troubleshoots/QCs inbound and outbound signals and applies technical and
quality improvements for each live shot.
● Manages backup recording of video feeds on KiPros
● Troubleshoots and understands video signal workflow throughout various remote
studios and fiber, IP and satellite paths.
● Updates guest contact information and source details in live Run of Show (ability to
read and follow a live rundown) and via shared google docs.
● Capable of identifying and troubleshooting control room/master control/streaming
gear and assisting the team with last-minute improvements or adjustments.
● Strong ability to set priorities, problem solve and proactively communicate/escalate
issues or concerns to management, IT and/or engineering staff.
● Ensures new ideas and methodologies are documented for use by control room and
master control teams.
● Collaborates with the broader studios team in developing new programs and
innovative technologies while maintaining and improving Yahoo Studios production
standards
● Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
● 4+ years of Technical Operations, Master Control or production experience in a live
television environment including news, talk, entertainment and sports programming or
live audio applications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Strong understanding and knowledge of Fiber/Satellite/Skype/Streaming operations as
well as of broadcast and studio production technology.
● A quick learner and willing to adapt to new technologies, new tasks and workflow
procedures in a fast-paced environment as a strong team player who can recognize
priority issues and escalate as necessary.

● Ability to multi-task and react quickly during daily broadcasts with a strong sense of
urgency.
● Capable of planning ahead, identifying potential issues and possessing strong
troubleshooting skills.
● Must be available to work all shifts, including weekends when needed.
● Must be willing to facilitate personnel requirements including late and/or last minute
scheduling changes in an ever-changing production work environment.
