Front End Developer

Centerville, VA · Information Technology
Join our elite IT team as a Front-end Developer
As a Front-end Developer you will be a part of the Product Services team.  The Product Services team has full responsibility for our online presence and that is a very big deal. We create websites for our consumers and dealers that incorporate tools to assist in buying and selling.  The Product Services team is an elite group of tech savvy individuals who deliver quality products that bring value to our customers.   This fast paced environment keeps our tech stack evolving so we are able to seamlessly support the hundreds of products that make us the leader in our industry.

 The Tech Culture
Having a creative and innovative environment where our developers can collaborate, learn and grow is something we are passionate about.  We have an entire floor dedicated to our techies, designed specifically to enable teams to dream big and produce the best.  Along with creating and maintaining awesome software you’ll also be able to participate in our quarterly Hack-a-thon’s or take a break by kicking back and playing the latest game on x-box when you need to re-boot the mind.  Oh, and do you happen to have a dog? We are dog-friendly and no day goes by where you don’t have the chance to visit with one of the visiting pups.  We even provide the dog beds, bowls and of course, toys!

A typical day looks like:
  • Determine which flavor of coffee to brew
  • Actively participate in morning huddle with fellow developers, PO and Scrum Master
  • Pair program on connecting React/Node pages to back-end APIs
  • Take a break and get crushed by Alex in Mario Kart
  • Research GraphQL for use on upcoming project
  • Continue pair programming – major breakthrough, happy dance!
  • Whiteboard session with PO to design next SEO analysis tool
  • Now afraid of Alex and Mario Kart, play putt-putt golf instead
  • Spend some time with someone’s pet dog before more pair programming
  • Take a break and have passionate discussion on SASS vs. LESS
  • Attend weekly department meeting, give quick readout on use of AWS

Stuff you’ve got to have experience with:
  • Modern Front End JavaScript libraries (such as ReactJS or AngularJS)
  • NodeJS / Javascript / ES6
  • HTML5, CSS3
  • Web services / REST API / GraphQL
  • Content Management System frameworks such as Contentful, Joomla or WordPress
  • Knowledge of SEO & web page performance techniques
  • Paired programming, TDD, XP
