Firewall Engineer

TalEx is partnering with a media services organization to identify a Firewall Engineer for a contract opportunity in Ashburn, VA.

Our client's Network Security team is looking for firewall specialists who will bring experience and fresh ideas to the security operations, be an escalation point for our client's Tier 1 and Tier 2 NOCs, and be responsible for the security  by managing the day-to-day network security infrastructure.

As a Firewall Engineer at our client your focus will be the security operations of network elements in our global backbone, production data centers and corporate infrastructure. You will protect our websites and offices so that over 150MM unique visitors can get to the content they seek 24x7xForever!


Daily Responsibilities
  • Manage the operational workload of the Network Security team (Juniper firewall filters)
  • Troubleshoot firewall/access issues and resolve or escalate to proper operational teams
  • Configure network security infrastructure (PaloAlto Networks firewalls and remote access VPN)
  • Monitor network flows for network anomalies and access failure
  • Provide technical guidance and security policy regarding design best practices on production, enterprise, and remote networks

Required Knowledge
  • An understanding of firewalls, VPNs, router/switch ACLs, Unix/Linux, and defense in depth
  • Protocol knowledge of: ICMP, IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP(S), NFS, DNS, SNMP, TELNET, SSH
  • Network command line proficiency in Juniper, Cisco, Brocade/Foundry, Arista
  • Unix command line proficiency


Required Skills/Experience
  • Securing Internet facing products and corporate infrastructure (load balancers, DMZs, remote access VPN, proxies, gateways)
  • Supported 24/7 Internet facing production environment with oncall rotation
  • Minor scripting in PERL, Python, and/or UNIX shells


Education/Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 2 year's equivalent practical experience
